What's Curling?

The game of curling is thought to have been invented in late medieval Scotland. It's a team sport with similarities to bowling and bocce ball, but played on a rectangular sheet of carefully prepared ice by two teams of four players each. Teams alternate turns at sliding heavy, polished granite stones down the ice towards the target area called the house. Two sweepers with brooms accompany each rock and use their best judgment along with direction from their teammates to help guide the stones toward the center of the house, or the button. The complex nature of stone placement and shot selection has led some to refer to curling as "chess on ice". So, we're like a chess club, but with brooms... and ice... and a 44 lb granite stone. Cheers.
